The GLOWS consortium is comprised of international and local partners with extensive experience and expertise in integrated water resources management. For information on local partners, visit our project location sites In the Field. The core team consists of:

Florida International University (FIU). FIU is the lead organization of the GLOWS consortium. The Institute for Sustainability Science, the Institute for Public Management, and other university units bring specialized expertise in community-based governance, sustainable watershed and ecosystem management, advanced training, and interdisciplinary analytical techniques as applied to IWRM. CARE is a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty. Women are at the heart of CARE's community-based efforts to improve basic education, prevent the spread of HIV, increase access to clean water and sanitation, expand economic opportunity and protect natural resources. http://www.care.org

Winrock International is a nonprofit organization that works with people in more than 65 countries to increase economic opportunity, sustain natural resources, and protect the environment. GLOWS partners with other leading organizations to enhance our capabilities to implement IWRM around the world and to better synthesize and communicate lessons to the international community. Key technical partners include:

University of Florida - Water Institute. An interdisciplinary institute coordinating diverse water expertise across the University of Florida. Key expertise is added to the GLOWS Consortium in areas of agricultural water by the Institute for Food and Agricultural Sciences and management and regulation of public water utilities by the Public Utility Research Center. For more information visit http://waterinstitute.ufl.edu.

DIVERSITAS freshwaterBIODIVERSITY Cross-cutting Network. A network of leading scientists working to initiate pilot case studies that elucidate the role of freshwater organisms for ecosystem functioning and services, and their social and economic values, to evaluate freshwaterBIODIVERSITY conservation methods, taking into account the multiplicity of freshwater resources and their uses, and to develop concepts and materials to educate people on the importance of biodiversity in the context of freshwater resources. Amizade. Amizade is an organization that encourages intercultural exploration and understanding through community-driven service-learning courses and volunteer programs, having help placed over 2600 American volunteers over the last eight years. For more information visit http://www.amizade.org

Fundación Natura. An Ecuadorian NGO dedicated to sustainable management of natural resources and conservation of Biodiversity. Fundación Natura is the lead implementing partner of GLOWS activities in the Pastaza Basin of Ecuador. For more information visit http://www.fnatura.org.


    

Training Partners  
 
 

GLOWS partners with other leading training institutes to support short courses in topics relevant to IWRM. Two key training partners are:

Cap-Net is an international network for capacity building in IWRM. It is made up of a partnership of autonomous international, regional and national institutions and networks committed to capacity building in the water sector. For more information visit http://www.cap-net.org/

Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS) - OTS is a non-profit consortium that has grown to include 63 universities and research institutions from the United States, Latin America and Australia. OTS was founded to provide leadership in education, research and the responsible use of natural resources in the tropics. To address this mission, OTS conducts graduate and undergraduate education, facilitates research, participates in tropical resource conservation, maintains three biological stations in Costa Rica and conducts environmental education programs. UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education. I
nstrumental to the strengthening of efforts by other universities and research centres in increasing knowledge and skills of professionals working in the water sector. The 190 Member States of UNESCO also have access to the knowledge and services of UNESCO-IHE in human and institutional capacity-building, which is vital to their efforts in the achievement of Millennium Development Goals, the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation and other global water objectives.
