Wetlands conservation and management in Central America, February 2007 in Palo Verde, Costa Rica, in partnership with the Organization for Tropical Studies. This introductory course for managers, conservationists, and policy makers instructed students in the theory and practice of wetlands conservation and management, as well as techniques for assessment and monitoring of ecological condition of wetland systems.  The course placed emphasis on the role of wetlands in a river basin and coastal context, including exploration of IWRM and ICM principles as they apply to wetlands.  Additional topics discussed during the week-long course were wetlands and agriculture, the consequences of dams and water diversions for wetlands, environmental flows, and wetlands restoration.

Application of the Building Block Methodology to Determine the Environmental Flow Requirements of the Mara River Basin, 14-19 May 2006 in Narok, Kenya, in partnership with the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education. This detailed course instructed specialists and key partners in the Building Block Methodology for determining environmental flows. The training launched an 8-month effort to quantify the environmental and basic human water requirements in the Mara River Basin . The activity involves the relevant water offices of the Ministries of Water in Kenya and Tanzania and will support their efforts to establish the flow Reserve for the basin.

Aquaculture in the Amazon, 11-15 April 2006 in Macas, Ecuador, in partnership with Fisheries and Illinois Aquaculture Center.
This course includes expert presentations on the most appropriate technologies for developing aquaculture activities in the Amazon, and it also includes an exchange of information and lessons learned between current producers in the region. The course features aquaculture as an alternate source of income for small producers. For more information >> Click Here.


Wetlands conservation and management in Central America, 20-25 February 2006 in Palo Verde, Costa Rica, in partnership with the Organization for Tropical Studies.
This course introduced students from across Central America to the classification, function, management, and restoration of wetlands for conservation and ecosystem services. The course took place at the Palo Verde Field Station, adjacent to the magnificent wetland ecosystems of the Tempisque River Basin.  Participants visited field sites and examined the complex issues affecting the wetlands in an IWRM context.

Integrated Water Resources Management, 20 January - 18 February 2006 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in partnership with the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo.This foundation course provided participants with an in-depth indroduction to the theory and practice of IWRM.  More than 20 participants from a variety of public and private organizations participated in the course, including senior resource managers from the Office of the Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources and the National Hydrological Resources Institute.  Participants engaged in a number of hands on learning experiences, ranging to computer modeling to actual stakeholder consultations in the Haina River Basin.

Assessment and Management of Environmental Water Allocations for Rivers, 21-26 November 2005 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in partnership with the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education. This course provided participants with a comprehensive introduction to the concept of environmental flows and the methodologies to allocate flows to the environment. The course involved more than 30 participants from a large variety of public and private organizations. Representation from the Mara River Basin included participants from the Kenyan Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Masai Mara National Reserve, Serengeti National Park, Tanzania Ministry of Water and Livestock, WWF Eastern Africa Regional Program Office, and WWF Tanzania Program Office.
