GLOWS Capabilities and Services

GLOWS is a consortium with extraordinary expertise in water supply/sanitation/hygiene (WASH), water productivity, and water resources management. By partnering a small number of organizations with global infrastructure GLOWS offers an unparalleled network for efficiently planning, implementing, and managing water projects in virtually all countries with a USAID presence.

The GLOWS partners combine skills in improved sanitation and potable water supply, advanced theory and analytical techniques in disciplines central to IWRM; global leadership in innovative mechanisms for sustainable resource management linked to biodiversity conservation; and global leadership in community-based programs to alleviate poverty.

Partner contributions to the consortium are, by design, highly complementary.

CARE, WaterAid America, Winrock International, WWF, and World Vision bring extensive field and program experience in WASH and IWRM, approaching the issues from the dual perspectives of poverty alleviation and biodiversity conservation. They also offer a global infrastructure consisting of offices and skilled staff located in many countries served by USAID. Importantly, their project experience extends to virtually every USAID Mission country.

FIU offers the physical and administrative infrastructure to manage the consortium and the intellectual capital to advance its tools and strategies to the very edge of current knowledge. The university offers advanced laboratories and computing facilities for the analysis of environmental data, interpretation of satellite imagery, and development of computer models. It also offers graduate programs to train nationals from USAID Mission countries to become future leaders in water management in their home countries.
