One of the most effective mechanisms for
promoting successful IWRM across the countries served by USAID is
through the formation of regional leaders. IWRM is an evolving approach
globally, and the cutting edge of IWRM theory and implementation is
centered in institutions of advanced learning and in the international
organizations spreading the approach and developing new techniques
through well-organized programs of implementation and adaptive
learning. GLOWS supports the advanced training of students in the
countries and areas where we work.
GLOWS also offers a specially
designed program of graduate studies at Florida International
University (FIU) in Miami, USA. Students obtain IWRM-enhanced MS,
MA, or PhD degrees in disciplines relevant to water resources
management. Normal degree programs are enhanced by an
accompanying certificate program in Water, Environment, and
Development. Students also develop thesis and dissertation projects at GLOWS project sites.
Graduate study opportunities within
GLOWS are open to all interested students, but USAID funds are used
exclusively to support students from USAID-mission countries.
Opportunities for funding US and European students are available
through other sources. For additional information please contact Dr.
Elizabeth Anderson (email). For general information about graduate studies at FIU, visit the University Graduate School Website.
